For a true taste of Turks & Caicos, head over to Five Cays, where Bugaloos Conch Crawl serves up every variation on conch right on the beach. Sip on margaritas and daiquiris and enjoy the live music as you watch the fishermen bring in their fresh catch. Trust me when I say you can easily get carried away here and lose track of the day. Best to avoid making other plans and bring your swimsuits and towels so you can stay and lounge as long as you like.
The local Island Fish Fry at The Bight park is the place to
be Thursday nights, start- ing at 5:30. Arrive early
so you have time before night falls to sample the local food vendors and try everything from barbecued ribs to jerk chicken and fish tacos. Drink it down with
PARTY:
a piña colada served up in
a hollowed out pineapple, or try the locally brewed Turk’s Head beer. This is also the chance to shop for souvenirs as the live band gets the party started. Then get ready to take in the lo- cal Junkanoo procession
as they close the evening. Watch the costumed danc- ers bang their drums to the sound of the Caribbean beat and don’t be surprised if you find yourself joining the parade. You might even learn a new move or two.
