BOY GEORGE AND THE CULTURE CLUB - LIFE
It’s been 19
years since
Boy George
and the Culture
Club released a new album, and if the first single, “Let Somebody Love You,” is any indication, fans are in for a treat. The song is a signature reggae, pop-infused track with Boy George’s distinctive voice belting out the lyrics. It sounds like it could easily fit in with their older material, yet it still has a fresh sound to it. While the new album has a nostalgic feel to it, don’t expect the same old same old that so many nostalgia bands throw our way.
GRETA VAN FLEET - ANTHEM OF THE PEACEFUL ARMY
This rock band’s
debut full length
album is one
of fall’s most
anticipated. Their
first singles from
last year, “Highway Tune” and “Safari Song,” both topped the Billboard charts, and their lead single from the upcoming album, “When the Curtain Falls” reached number 5 on the Billboard chart. Their musical style is often compared to Led Zeppelin, and coincidentally enough Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant even stated earlier this year that the young band was one of his favourites.
KILLING COMMENDATORE
Written as a homage to
The Great Gatsby, Haruki
Murakami’s latest novel
follows the story of a painter
dealing with his separation
from his wife. After he
becomes caretaker to a famous
artist’s house, he discovers
a mysterious painting in the
attic that leads him to discover clues about the artist’s life that had not been known before.
THE LIBRARY BOOK
In this non-fiction book from Susan Orlean, the author of Rin Tin Tin and The Orchid Thief, the unsolved mystery of the catastrophic library fire
at the Los Angeles Public Library in 1986 is re- examined. The fire burned for more than seven hours, and destroyed
over 400,000 books. Even though investigators
tried to figure out what happened, they could
never answer the question as to whether the fire was set on purpose or not. Orlean goes over the facts of the case, including a close look at one of the suspects, while writing what turns into a love
letter to the library.
MISS MARLEY
You’ve more than likely heard the story of A Christmas Carol many times, but you’ve never heard the story of Jacob Marley before. Miss Marley tells the story of the man before he became a ghost, and his sister, Clara. From being a child living in the streets, to the greedy, heartless man he eventually becomes, witness the beginnings of the classic story.
