Becoming Angie
BEST KNOWN AS THE
flame-haired beauty who cov-

ple times back in the 1990s,
our October 2018 cover girl
Angie Everhart continues to
live in the spotlight. Today,
the 49-year-old Akron, Ohio-
born model is also a suc-
cessful actress. Everhart first
moved to New York City to pursue modelling, but later relocated to Paris, where she lived for over a decade. It was the City of Light that truly cata- pulted the star on to the fashion scene, although she is based in Los Angeles these days.
“My career kind of launched at light speed from there [Paris]. I did Levi’s commercials, Saint Lau- rent campaigns. I was the first redhead to have a makeup campaign. I was the first redhead to be on the cover of American Glamour,” she tells us proudly.
Fast forward to 2018, and the model turned actress is set to star in three movies. Her upcom- ing films Anathema, Another Day in Paradise and Woman on the Edge are all slated for release this year. Much like the characters that she depicts on the big screen, Everhart is every inch a strong woman, and would never play any other kind of role. “My characters are always someone I can re- late to as a person, in some way, shape or form. If I can’t relate to the character, then I have a hard time playing the character,” she tells us.
Having depicted every type of character from doctors to lawyers, Everhart has certainly become quite the shapeshifter in films. However, the transi- tion from modelling to Hollywood was a gradual one. While living in New York, she got her second ever role in the film Jade—and the rest, as they say,
is history.
“I moved to California and
I pretty much never looked back. It was like palm trees were my future. It was some- thing that I wanted to do, the height of my career and it was a wonderful challenge,” she reflects. Everhart continues to be inspired by the glam-
our of cinema, and describes the 1968 classic film The Lion in Winter as one of her favourites. “It’s with Peter O’Toole and Katharine Hepburn, and they play the King and Queen of England. They give two of the most amazing performances in this movie,” she enthuses. Meanwhile, contemporary actresses like Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet are also on her list of inspirational Hollywood names.
Just like her foray into modelling, navigating the entertainment industry wasn’t easy for this hum- ble, all-American girl. “I think the main part of en- tertainment is rejection. You really have to learn how to not take it personally and to accept who you are. There are so many characters that I cannot be, or that I choose not to be,” she says. Meanwhile, the fashion industry came with its own challenges and its requirements to maintain a certain image. “You have to be disciplined about eating and stay- ing healthy, exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy mindset. That whole thing about fashion definitely trained me to want to always stay fit,” Everhart muses.
However, the star’s greatest challenge to date ac- tually came in the form of a health scare. Everhart is a thyroid cancer survivor, and has been cautious about her health and well-being ever since making a full recovery. Being a mother to a nine-year-old son, she also focuses on relaxation and family time
