you might recognize tiera Skovbye for her guest appearances on Arrow and Supernatu- ral, or perhaps for playing elizabeth berkley in the made for tV movie The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story. over the course of the last couple of years though, Skovbye has been getting bigger, re-occuring roles, on shows such as Riverdale and Once Upon a Time. this year alone the 22-year- old actress/model will continue her work on the two hit tV series, as well as star in three lms.
“Sometimes it can be a bit tricky, jumping from one character to the other,” Skovbye says of work- ing on two tV series at the same time, “but i’ve been pretty lucky that usually i have a bit of time between to work on each character separately.”
on Riverdale, Skovbye plays polly cooper, the older sister of betty, who returned to riverd- ale after mysteriously disappearing. the rst arc of the series revolved around the murder of her boy- friend, and even though that storyline wrapped up, there is much more of polly’s story to be told. “i think there is a lot to explore with polly,” Skovbye says, even though her character is currently on the run. “i understand why she needs to make her children’s safety her main priority right now, and
maybe staying in riverdale isn’t the safest way to do that at the moment.” polly’s situation seems to be at least somewhat grounded in reality, which is more than can be said about Skovbye’s role in Once Upon a Time.
Skovbye was introduced to audiences in the winter nale of the latest season of Once Upon a Time as the grown-up daughter of Zelena and robin hood, a role that she will play all the way through to the series nale later this year. She calls the character “super fun and interesting” even though the character is “very much trying to gure out who she is and what she wants.” even before she landed the role she was a fan of the series, partly due to the fact that she tuned in to watch her younger sister, ali, in the rst two seasons play the mad hatter’s daughter.
tV isn’t Skovbye’s only medium however, as she has three lms coming out this year. the rst, Sum- mer 0f 84, premiered recently at the Sundance Film Festival. the horror lm about a group of teen- agers suspecting their neighbour is a serial killer has a very b-movie feel to it, and for inspiration the directors suggested the actors watch movies like Disturbia and The Goonies. Skovbye will also star alongside bella thorne later this year in Mid- night Sun and helen hunt in The Miracle Season.
While Skovbye doesn’t have a preference in whether she shoots a tV series or a movie, she does note there is one big difference. “With a movie you get a solid beginning, middle and end to your character,” she says. “you are able to fully form the character you are playing, whereas with tV you never really know what’s going to happen and you are constantly discovering new things about the character with each episode.”
For the moment Skovbye’s focus is on acting, and with a long list of actresses that she admires and would like to work with one day, such as meryl Streep, margot robbie, Kate Winslet, brie larson and alison brie, her biggest dream is what you’d expect. “i hope to keep working consistently on projects i’m passionate about,” she says. With the year Skovbye’s had, it seems like she’s well on her way to achieving that dream.
