Time to hit the books with two new releases that will keep you in-the-know when it comes to fashion history. Study up.
John Galliano for Dior, Photographs, by Robert Fairer
& Foreward by Hamish Bowles (October 8)
Sometimes you just
want to look at the
pictures—especially
if they are snapped
behind-the-scenes that
capture models, stylists, hairdressers, makeup artists and most importantly one theatrical and super talented fashion designer in action (oh, to be a fly on the haus wall)! Flip through pages and pages of never-before-seen images (taken from 1998 to 2010) showcasing the creativity and designs of John Galliano. Snapped by Rob- ert Fairer, who for over a decade was Vogue’s exclusive backstage photographer, the result is a visual chronology of Galliano’s work as the head of the Paris-based fashion house.
50 Fashion Designers You Should Know, by Simone Werle (November 26)
Profiling (you guessed it) 50 fashion designers and their most well-known creations, the timeline of this haute hand- book starts in the
early 20th century and makes its way to today. From designers who are considered the classics, to the avant-garde, to the red carpet favourites; Coco Chanel, to Karl Lagerfeld, to Vivienne Westwood, to Tom Ford and beyond, this book gives an intro into the world of fashion. No doubt, finished with a chic air kiss.
Canadian artisans (so you can feel good about supporting creators from your own backyard...anything to justify a purchase!),
Fabrique1840 will carry offerings of the fashion, beauty, home décor and artisanal food and drink variety. Eyeing up the fashion finds, perhaps the Camillette Flat Hoop Earrings ($70) or Uppdoo Vive Saddle Bag in Green ($285) or Par Ici Jewellery Two-Tone Braid 3 in 1 Necklace ($255) will make it into your shopping bag.
EDITOR’S PICK: GIUSEPPE FOR CHRISTIAN COWAN
We always have time
(pun intended) for shoes— and now is no exception! The partnership between footwear and fashion designers Giuseppe Zanotti and Christian Cowan, respectively, continues
this fall with the latest launch of Giuseppe for Christian Cowan. Only now, the watch strap sandal previously worn by Cardi B, Rita Ora and Kim Kardashian West swaps gold hardware for silver
in its latest iteration. But
our vote for pair to watch (again...couldn’t resist) from the collaboration is a black, knee-high gladiator style (pictured; US$4650) that has six watch straps that rest against the leg.
Stop the clock! Available at Giuseppe Zanotti boutiques and online at giuseppezanotti.com.
