FALLING FOR (FALL)
FASHION
BY HEIDI HOFSTAD
French stylist and US Correspondent for Vanity Fair France, Philippe Uter knows how to pick them—when it comes to choosing the perfect wardrobe, of course. Consider Uter an outfit matchmaker, pulling together looks we love while working with celeb clients like Milla Jovovich, Jackie Cruz, Lais Ribeiro, Coco Rocha and Noah Schnapp. Since a new season is upon us, Real Style asked Uter what colours, accessories, and pieces, we should be falling for this Fall!
Real Style: What’s new in terms of Fall style? Philippe Uter: Silk and satin are back, but my fave trends for Fall 2019 are tartan patterns and leopard print. I am a big fan of leopard in general!
RS: What are the standout shades?
PU: Though usually used for Summer, the standout shades for Fall are orange and hot pink.
RS: What else should we buy right now?
PU: Celine boots and midi skirt, a silk slip dress in leopard print to make it trendier and to pair with an oversized coat, a large leather belt to define the waist, and Versace red silk pumps with embroidered straps and bows, if you dare!
RS: What should our Fall dress code include?
PU: I think long coats and oversized shoulders are going to be one of the stronger pieces you will need to have in your closet.
RS: What are you most looking forward to dressing your clients in this Fall?
PU: I saw some amazing deep fuchsia, velvet pieces from Rasario, including a strapless dress with a match- ing belt. Also, a strong lavender dress with chunky chain straps and a matching coat by Tom Ford.
RS: When the temperature starts to drop (and the layers pile on), how can we liven up our look?
PU: A trend that will be seen a lot is the cape, which adds a “wow” effect instantly, but can also help keep you warm. A silk scarf is also a go-to because it adds a chic and colorful note to a simple silhouette. If we are talking about a big temperature drop, then a thick and big scarf is great because it feels cocooning, but is still fashionable.
RS: What boot is the It style for the season? PU: A brown knee boot, such as the Celine.
RS: What items in our closet easily transition from Summer to Fall?
PU: You can keep all shirts and sweaters that are not printed, a denim jacket (looks great under a large sand coat) and obviously your denim pants.
RS: At the start of the new season, what is your personal favourite fashion indulgence?
PU: To start off a new season, I’d indulge in a black, tweed Chanel jacket, a navy blazer from Balmain, or a shearling coat from Acne.
