HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO
The newly renovated Hard Rock is definitely most impressive, with lots of pale wood, glass and hardwood floors. The resort also boasts lots of interesting rockstar memorabilia and a plethora of restaurants.
Unfortunately we found
the service was lacking, particularly in some of the restaurants. As well, the food in the new Council Oak Fish restaurant had to be sent back twice as it was over-salted and under cooked, but our meal
at Robert’s Steakhouse the following day was excellent.
Our room, while spacious and affordable, smelled of stale smoke even though it
was on a nonsmoking floor. Hopefully these issues were just a result of growing pains and will be resolved soon.
THE BORGATA HOTEL CASINO & SPA
Lovely Chihuly glass installations greet you as you walk into the spacious lobby. While there’s no escaping
the smoke from the casino,
the hotel is popular with New Jersey and New York crowds. The hotel is not on the ocean, but The Borgata is on the marina and also features the attached 800 room Water Club Hotel with upscale stores and a large spa.
This hotel was busier
and had more of an upscale crowd. The restaurants, which include the Izakaya, Wolfgang Puck American Grill and a number of bars, were full and apx. 1000 people (as well
as us) had come to see Jerry Seinfeld perform. This show went on without a hitch.
THE OCEAN RESORT & CASINO
Boasting several pools, spacious bedrooms, high ceilings and wall to wall windows, this newly opened hotel is more resort than casino. As the last hotel at the north end of the boardwalk, it also enjoys more privacy and beachfront access.
As the resort is brand new it still lacks some of the posh restaurants and shopping of the established hotels, but it was only one of the three hotels that had designated smoking areas, was bright and spacious, and had a rooftop garden. On the Saturday the attached HQ2 Beach Club was also packed with bikini-clad, long-tressed ladies and muscle-bound guys, providing great entertainment value.
