To revive business in the city, the residents legalized gambling in 1976, and by 1978 the construction of the many casinos around to- day was in full swing. Atlantic City went on to enjoy its second act, with an influx of visi-
tors well into the 1990s, but competition from other gaming centres and a redeveloped Las Vegas once again forced the city into a long slide of decline... until, possibly, now. New and revamped properties are trying to woo the upscale customer back to Atlantic City.
