While it might not seem like it quite yet, fall is almost here. It’s the perfect time to curl up on the couch, or in bed, with a new novel that is set to capture your attention. Thankfully there are plenty of great new novels on their way, hitting book stores soon, that you will absolutely want to get your hands on. Here are some of the best.

Nineteen Steps by Millie Bobby Brown – September 12

Millie Bobby Brown may be known at the moment as just an actress on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, but she’s about to change that perception. The 19-year-old is about to release her first book. The historical fiction novel is set in 1942 and is inspired by her family history during the air raids of London during World War 2. The story is one of love, loss and secrets, and of a strong woman who falls for an American airman stationed near the city.

The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok – October 10

Best selling author Jean Kwok’s latest novel follows the story of two woman on a collision course. The first is fleeing China from her controlling husband as she searches for the daughter she was forced to give up. The other seems to have everything, including a great career, caring husband and beautiful daughter, before a scandal threatens to destroy it all. It’s a twisting, suspenseful novel that explores the connection two seemingly different women have with one another.

Worthy by Jada Pinkett Smith – October 17

Since she burst onto the scene in 1990 with a few small roles, Jada Pinkett Smith has been in the spotlight. Fray by Chris Carse Wilson – September 5

Wilson’s debut novel isn’t your typical missing person mystery work of fiction. It follows the story of a father trying to find his lost wife, and their child who is lost in the wild forests of the Scottish Highlands. Everything is centered around an abandoned cottage filled with handwritten notes that are terrifying to read. The Valkyrie by Kate Heartfield – September 5

The best selling author of The Embroidered Book returns with a retelling of of popular Norse myths from a queer and feminist point of view. It focuses on the stories of Brynhild, the Valkyrie in exile, Gudrun, the Princess meant to be a prize for an invading king, and the mighty warrior Sigurd.  The legends may be old, but the stories are new.
