Whether you prefer tales of intrigue or mystery, we’ve curated a roundup of upcoming books to add to your ever-growing collection in the weeks ahead.

ALICE AND OLIVER

Alice & Oliver by Charles Bock, Deckle Edge: This latest emotional read from New York Times-bestselling author Charles Bock hits the shelves on April 5, and introduces us to fashion designer and new mother Alice Culvert. It is New York City in 1993, and protagonist Alice is happily married and loving life. When she suddenly receives a shocking cancer diagnosis one day, Alice must come to terms with her illness and its effect on her family, marriage and livelihood.

ELIGIBLE

Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice by Curtis Sittenfeld, Random House: As a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice, Curtis Sittenfeld’s book Eligible is revamped for 2016 and out on April 19. Eligible brings readers into the world of thirtysomething magazine journalist Liz Bennett and her sisters. Liz’s older sister Jane is a yoga instructor, while her middle sister Mary is a studious Masters student and their two youngest sisters, Kitty and Lydia, are unemployed and diet-obsessed. Their mother is desperate for all her daughters to find good husbands, which leads to the introduction of handsome doctor Chip Bingley and his friend, neurosurgeon Fitzwilliam Darcy.

EAR TO THE GROUND

Ear to the Ground by Paul Kolsby and David L. Ulin, The Unnamed Press: This new book by writers Paul Kolsby and David Ulin shares the tale of main character Charlie Richter, who is the grandson of the inventor of the Richter scale. As a seismologist, Charlie is working for the Los Angeles-based Center for Earthquake Studies when he suddenly realizes a huge earthquake is on the horizon. To his surprise, the Center has been waiting for the next big earthquake all along, in order to produce a Hollywood-worthy blockbuster film. Look out for this new read on the shelves on April 12.

LAZARETTO

Lazaretto: A Novel by Diane McKinney-Whetstone, Harper: This upcoming title by Tumbling author Diane McKinney-Whetstone brings readers to Philadelphia during the Civil Rights era. The 19th century Lazaretto island hospital is an isolated destination, but is home for the black staff members who live and work there. However, what should be a joyful wedding celebration for one of the Lazaretto staff quickly turns into a tragedy. A shocking shooting, two orphaned brothers and unexpected drama set this story into motion. The book is released on April 12.
