Montreal Festivals To Hit Up This Winter

Montreal offers locals and visitors European flare and old school charm. With its horse-drawn carriages on cobblestone streets, grand architecture and boutique shops, the vibrant city is alive with endless activities. While it’s known for its dynamic arts and internationally renowned culture scene, Montreal is also recognized as the North’s very own sin city – creating a perfect blend of past, present and future. From electronic music festivals to icy playgrounds, see below for a list of must-attend events this winter in Montreal.

Igloofest

For three weekends, the Old Port of Montreal is turning into an under the stars dance party. From January 18th to February 3rd, electronic music lovers are invited to jam outside for nine brightly lit nights. Bringing together both local and international artists, Igloofest goers have the chance to groove alongside performers such as Izzy Vadmin, NGHTMARE and The W4rriors. To get the full Igloo experience, rent out a lodge that matches the weekend’s frozen winter wonderland vibes.

Fêtes des Neiges de Montréal

Marking its 35th anniversary, Fêtes des Neiges continues to celebrate everything that winter is at Montreal’s unique Parc Jean-Drapeau. Open from now until February 11th, the whole family is welcome to come and discover the joys of winter. Offering so much more than just snow, the celebration features a tube-slide and skate path for the sports enthusiasts and a Ferris wheel with unparallel views for the romantics at heart. A beautiful afternoon at the park is sure to make you forget about the cold!

Illuminart

As part of Montreal’s larger Montréal en Lumièr festival kicking off February 22nd until March 4th, Illuminart is returning this year as a full-fledged event of its own. With the goal of bringing light to winters darkness, this open air art museum is an array of technological works that showcase Montreal as a creative laboratory. Featuring over 25 outdoor pieces throughout the downtown core, the festival involves interactive installations (that let you create light of your own!), building projections and sculptures. The two weekend event has become a must-see destination for imaginative minds.
