With Canada being such a beautiful and diverse country, there are endless foods to try, from coast to coast. Of course, Calgary is no exception. If you’re a foodie and you find yourself out west, you’ll be pleased to know that this Alberta city offers everything from Canadian cuisine, to French food and even Korean options. Although Calgary’s dining scene may not receive the same buzz as Toronto and Montreal, we’ve done our research on the popular choices in town. Here are a few Calgary restaurants you may want to try the next time you’re visiting.
Alloy
Heilik and Rogelio Herrera are the owners and chefs at this Calgary spot. With their Mediterranean and Latin background, they have created a restaurant that offers food which is created with local ingredients, as well as a mixture of Asian flavors. Their menu includes dishes like lobster, duck and Korean barbecue meats. They have core dishes that will always stay on the menu, while other dishes are only temporary.
River Café
If you’re looking for a cozy spot for a glass of wine with some food, River Café just might satisfy your cravings. Located in Prince Island Park, the café offers Canadian cuisine that is said to be made fresh from local ingredients. The founder of the café, Sal Howell, is an advocate for using sustainable ingredients to create the food in her restaurant. With the help of executive chef Matthias Fong, you can find choices like oysters, hog wild boar, shrimp and halibut on the menu.
Anju
In Korean, Anju means, “Food you eat with alcohol.” Roy Oh is the owner of the restaurant, as well as one of the chefs in the restaurant. The former graphic designer decided to create his own version of traditional Korean dishes that his mom used to make. Anju also offers a space to book private events, where you can enjoy cocktails with a variety of Korean dishes.
Rouge
Rouge’s owners Olivier Reynold and Chef Paul Rogalski have spent 38 years working on their culinary skills in nine different countries. Much of their food is inspired by the French and is made from local ingredients. They offer foods like duck, trout and halibut. The restaurant also offers space to host private gatherings, events and even weddings.
