If you’re ready for a night out which is off the beaten path, this week is sure to satisfy your curiosity. From getting your socks scared off to stuffing your face in pie, this month is showing no signs of slowing down. Here are some low key events to enjoy in the 6ix this week, whether you’re in the mood for cocktails or a horror flick.
Cold Brew Cocktail Week, April 24-30
Cold brew coffee has become a rising “hipster” trend and Station Cold Brew Coffee Co. is making it even better with their Cold Brew Cocktail Week. In partnership with Corby, this one-of-a-kind festival is the perfect marriage between coffee and alcohol. Over 10 locations in the city will each feature a different custom drink for visitors to try. Kicking off with a launch party at The Drake Hotel, the event runs from the 24th until the 30th.

Think you know Fox’s favourite family? Grab your friends and test your Simpson’s knowledge at Wayla Bar. With questions taken exclusively from the first seven seasons of this beloved cartoon, the event will be a challenge for even the most seasoned fans. Whether you’ve watched a few episodes or collect the seasons, April 25th is definitely a day to mark on your calendar.
Horror Film Festival, April 27
This festival is definitely not for the faint of heart. Scary movie junkies can unite at the HORROR Best of Short Films Festival, which will be hosted at Carlton Cinemas on April 27th. With films from the U.S., Ireland, Italy and the UK, there is no shortage of blood, gore and suspense. The festival will spotlight horror movies from around the world, and bring them home to Toronto for a night at the movies.

Though it’s popular for its artsy culture and thrift shops, Kensington Market is also home to some amazing cuisine. On April 28th, foodies can go on a culinary excursion and meet local shopkeepers and chefs. Starting at Jimmy’s Coffee, the Kensington Krawl Food Tour covers the market’s history and heritage.
Free Pie Day, April 29
You can have your pie and eat it to at the opening of North Shore Pie Co.’s newest location. Head down to Roncesvalles on April 29th for some free mini pies. The 100 percent New Zealand bakery will be giving out free cookies to kids and is also hosting a pie-eating contest. For anyone with a sweet tooth who is aching for a sugar fix, this may be the perfect event to end your month on a delicious (albeit calorie-laden) note.
