With below zero temperatures and snow covered roads, most folks prefer staying in and curling up next to the fireplace. However, as the weather changes with the arrival of spring, local events and festivals are popping up. With so many diverse cultures making up our province, there is an event for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re craving maple goodness or looking to embrace the most beautiful blooms of the season, we’ve rounded up a few festivals to check out now. 

Maple Syrup Festival

Nestled about an hour outside of Toronto, Elmira is a small town with a love of maple syrup. Each year the classic Canadian staple is celebrated with a pancake breakfast, tour of the sugar bushes and outdoor mall. The tight-knit community of Elmira is evident in the family-run vendors offering international cuisine, hand-made souvenirs and of course, maple treats. The Elmira maple syrup festival is the largest in the world and though this year it is held on April Fool’s Day, this event is no joke.

Canadian Music Week

From April 18-22, the Canadian music industry will be showcased at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto. With workshops, guest speakers and performances, there’s something for every type of music lover out there. Most of the events are free to music junkies but for those wanting to attend any of the awards shows, tickets can be purchased online.

Muskoka Arts & Crafts 38th Annual Spring Members’ Show

For those looking to go up north, Muskoka Arts and Crafts will be displaying some of their members’ best work. The beloved cottage country is home to some very talented local artists. This three-day event kicks off with an awards ceremony followed by a weekend of demonstrations. The show just may be worth a visit for art enthusiasts of all levels.

Canadian Tulip Festival

Head to the nation’s capital to see the displays of the city’s official flower. For Canadians, the tulip symbolizes the strong friendship between Canada and the Netherlands. From May 12-22, tulip gardens are showcased at various locations throughout the city and visitors have the option to walk or bike along the route. Aside from admiring the tulips, visitors can enjoy live entertainment, unique culinary experiences, and a fireworks show.
