Take in the Festival of Lights
Run by the Ontario Power Generation, this festival will put your neighbour’s Christmas lights to shame. The Winter Festival of Lights features an eight kilometre long illumination trail through the town. With over 3 million sparkling, colourful LED lights, it’s no surprise that this event consistently ranks among the top Christmas events in Canada. Weekly firework presentations and daily laser light shows enhance the regular programming of light sculptures in the shape of snowflakes, reindeer and other seasonal icons. On now until January 31st, this attraction offers plenty to do and see at every age.

Visit the snowy falls
The majestic falls are beautiful any time of the year, but the natural wonder is particularly dazzling in winter. With the waterfalls partially frozen over and surrounded by banks of snow, the landmark looks every bit the winter wonderland. With chilling mist rising from the waterfalls, bundling up is an essential, as is a stop to one of the many coffee shops that surround the site. The best part of visiting the landmark in the off-season, however, is the lack of tourists that are so rampant in the summer months.

Relax at the Niagara Brewing Company
Though coffee and hot chocolate do their part to beat the chill, there’s nothing quite like a fresh pint of beer to truly warm you up. Conveniently located a short walk from the falls is the Niagara Brewing Company, a craft beer brewpub that aims to preserve Canada’s brewing heritage. Founded by Ontario craft beer veteran Gord Slater, the Niagara Brewing Company claims to offer some of the country’s most innovative craft beer, complimented by a short menu of gourmet pub food.

Escape winter at the Niagara Parks Floral Showcase
Those missing the vibrant colours of summer will enjoy an opportunity to visit the Niagara Parks Floral Showcase. This indoor garden features a unique collection of orchids, tropical plants, and even birds. The Niagara Parks Floral Showcase presents eight seasonal floral shows throughout the year, with the annual Christmas display on from December through mid-January. A stroll through the garden’s vibrant paths offers a welcome escape from winter, if only for an hour or so.
