For Canadian travel junkies who are eager to explore the True North this spring, the warmer temperatures of May offer a perfect opportunity to escape your hometown. Whether you’re craving the idea of an island retreat in Charlottetown or dreaming of sipping wine in the Okanagan, we’ve curated our roundup of must-visit travel destinations across Canada.
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: As the capital of PEI, this tranquil city is a peaceful destination during the spring months. From May 18 to May 22, Charlottetown hosts the May Run Music Festival, which focuses on Canadian and Prince Edward Island artists. Meanwhile, avid foodies can visit Merchant Man Fresh Seafood & Oyster Bar for seafood chowder or island mussels. If you’re in a crafty mood, drop by local shops like the Garnish Jewellery Studio and Cordelia’s Artisan Boutique to stock up on accessories and artwork. Naturally, the breathtaking scenery of this Prince Edward Island is reason enough to book a trip- with your selfie stick in hand, of course.
Nipigon, Ontario: Located in Thunder Bay District, Northwestern Ontario, this tiny township is right by the Nipigon River. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, this small town destination is a gateway to Lake Nipigon and Lake Superior, and also home to Lake Nipigon Provincial Park. With majestic cliffs and beaches known for green-black sand, Nipigon also features striking scenery. While you’re in town, stop by the Nipigon Marina, go sailing on the open waters or enjoy a family-friendly day at the Paddle to the Sea Park.

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia: As a region of southern British Columbia known for its signature wines, Okanagan is comprised of the cities of Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Osoyoos. The valley consists of 4000 hectares of vineyards, and also offers a number of wineries. Try stopping by the Fort Berens Estate Winery or Summerhill Winery for a tour, or visit Lake Okanagan for a relaxing stroll by the beach.

Wascana Lake, Regina, Saskatchewan: Created in 1883 by damming Wascana Creek, this gorgeous hotspot is now divided into an East Lake and a West Lake. Wascana Lake is home to wildlife, but also offers a chance for adventure seekers to enjoy canoeing and rowing. Meanwhile, the local Wascana Centre Park is a 930-hectare area which houses the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and the Conexus Arts Centre. Soak up the springtime sunshine with a family picnic, or explore the grounds and shoot nature photography if you prefer.
