Intriguing New Mystery Novels For The Book Lover
If you’re hoping to delve into the pages of a thrilling mystery book this winter, try picking up one of the new titles which have just been released this season. Whether you prefer mysterious tales which haunt entire families for generations or prefer to escape into a world of memory loss and haunted spirits, here are a few intriguing new tomes to read now.
The Forgotten Room: A Novel by Karen White, Beatriz Williams and Lauren Willig, NAL: This novel (which just hit the shelves on January 19) introduces readers to a young doctor named Kate Schuyler and the multi-generational mystery which surrounds her. In 1945, Kate discovers that she has family connections to a special room in a 19th century mansion. Meanwhile, her story is also intertwined with the tales of her own mother, Lucy, and the mansion’s servant, Olive Van Alen. In fact, these three different ladies are connected to each other by a mystical heirloom ruby necklace.
The Goddaughter Caper: A Gina Gallo Mystery by Melodie Campbell, Raven Books: As the fourth read in the Gina Gallo series, this latest title was also released on January 19. This time, jewellery store owner Gina becomes involved in a new mystery when a dead body is discovered at her uncle’s restaurant. Strangely, this only opens the door to other strange events for Gina and her family, like the horrors of finding a dead body in the trunk of her car. After Gina and her cousin find a series of empty coffins, she becomes tangled in yet another haunting misadventure.
Even the Dead: A Quirke Novel by Benjamin Black, Henry Holt and Co: Author Benjamin Black’s latest read was released on January 12, and takes place during a scorching heat wave in Dublin. The story is centred on an Irish pathologist Quirke, who discovers a body after a fiery car crash one summer evening. Shortly after, Quirke’s daughter is visited by a terrified pregnant woman, who strangely disappears. This leaves Quirke to solve the mystery, along with his friend Inspector Hackett.
The Dirt on Ninth Grave: A Novel by Darynda Jones, St. Martin’s Press: In this book (which also came out on January 12), author Darynda Jones shares the tale of a mystery girl living in a small New York village. Jane Doe suffers from amnesia, works in a diner and has the spooky ability to see the dead. After she makes a handsome new friend, Jane later realizes that an incredibly dangerous force may be hot on her trails.
