With last night marking the final evening of Toronto Women’s Fashion Week Spring 2018, the local runways at One Yonge Street were once again alight with colour and sound. The spirit of the evening was patriotic, as TW also presented a Canada 150 runway show, which featured Canadian designers like Triarchy and Hendrixroe. With a brightly lit red runway, models marched down the catwalk sporting everything from double denim to luxurious red outerwear. In addition to this featured show, the Canadian Spring 2018 collections were also a highlight, with international label Amato Couture presenting as a special guest designer. Zoran Dobric

While Zoran Dobric may be based in Toronto, the rising designer has trained at the London College of Fashion and Milan’s Instituto Marangoni. These international influences were evident in Dobric’s latest collection, which was titled United Nations. Dobric sent models down the catwalk wearing architectural, pointed black hats as a statement accessory look. Meanwhile, structured power shoulders and knotted belts brought visual interest to striped and ruched dresses. Shades of brown and ivory were key colours, with metallic surfaces adding a party-ready feel to otherwise conservative frocks.

Stephan Caras

Toronto father and son design duo Stephan and Kyriako Caras unveiled their Spring 2018 Eden collection, which stayed true to the label’s passion for femininity. Models floated down the catwalk in signature voluminous gowns, past a giant neon pink heart which brightened the background. And love was certainly in the air, along with artistry- particularly when it came to the details. From puffed tulle sleeves in pale pink to floral lace and delicate fringe, the lineup of ornate evening gowns were updated with contemporary accents.

Amato Couture

Dubai-based label Amato Couture was founded by designer Furne One (in partnership with textile expert Rashid Ali) in 2002. As the international spotlight at TW, One brought romance and glamour to the Toronto runway. Amato brought the week’s shows to a grand finale, with a presentation of couture ball gowns in candy colours. Princess-like hems, strapless necklines and tiered ruffles offered a fairytale effect, with some sparkling embellishment thrown in for good measure.
