Day 2 At Yorkdale FashionCAN Features Designs By Pink Tartan, Greta Constantine & More
This week, the second day of runway shows at Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s FashionCAN showcase revealed another round of stellar Canadian collections. The event, which was presented in partnership with the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, continued to impress with its runway presentations.
At Montreal label UNTTLD, co-designers Simon Bélanger and José Manuel stuck to their now signature aesthetic of gold metallics and black and white structured designs. From full-length capes to gowns with plunging V-necklines, the styles ranged from dark and brooding to entirely sexy. White gowns were accented with thigh-high slits, while ivory kimono inspired jackets and leopard prints also made an appearance.
Meanwhile, designer Christopher Paunil revealed an array of breathtaking, airy dresses in every shade from ivory to magenta. Sheer panels, strappy bodices and voluminous hems were all key looks, while ruching brought visual interest to the creations. Bridal gowns were detailed with sheer lace and long sleeves for a romantic effect, while pale pink and rich red completed the collection.
At Pink Tartan, designer Kim Newport-Mimran unveiled statement fur jackets in soft beige and brown. From oversized blazers to a recurring geometric print in navy, red and blue, the collection included several key looks. Floral prints brightened a ladylike fitted pantsuit and midi skirt, and shared the stage with basic black pieces and classic grey outerwear.
Designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong of Greta Constantine displayed a punchy, edgy collection of candy-coloured frocks interspersed with metallics. Dresses featured puffy ruffled hemlines, long sheer skirts and pussybow necklines. Meanwhile, colours ranged from light peach and pastel pink to aqua and violet. Overall, party-ready energy filled the catwalk, due to the immersion of shimmer, embellishment and colourful embroidery.
