New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 Best Looks

With the Spring 2017 shows at New York Fashion Week officially showcasing the latest designer creations, the American catwalks have revealed a new array of styles for the season ahead.

At Zac Posen, structured white blouses and skirts made a statement, along with fitted biker jackets in ivory and cream hues. Meanwhile, rich brocade fabrics also offered a sensual effect, with bright shades of orange, yellow and magenta. Eye-catching embroidery was contrasted against puffed sleeves, tulip skirts and voluminous hems.

Newly crowned creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia made their debut at Oscar de la Renta, as the replacements for former creative director Peter Copping. Kim and Garcia, who also lead the fashion label Monse, sent simplistic yet chic designs down the runway. The aesthetic was airy and feminine, with white crochet frocks and plenty of black and red. Models strut the catwalk in printed sheath dresses, belted ivory jackets and vibrant bohemian patterned pieces.

At Carolina Herrera, the 77-year-old designer celebrated the 35th anniversary of her eponymous label. On the runway, Herrera combined casual fabrics such as denim with elaborate detail. This translated into a strapless medium wash jean gown with a ball gown skirt and black and white gingham dresses. From blue and silver floral prints to classic black and white stripes, the colour palette also featured neutral and timeless shades.

Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez introduced bright colours into their Spring 2017 looks. Funky red and yellow striped frocks were detailed with fringed hems, while dainty black and yellow checks also made a guest appearance. From cut-outs on patterned dresses to oversized outerwear, the label’s signature rebellious spirit was in the air.

Joseph Altuzarra was inspired by the 1990 crime drama film Wild At Heart, which led to python prints and pops of bold pink on the catwalk. The girlish and playful Altuzarra collection featured ruffled knee-length skirts, tiny cherry prints and belted dresses and coats in snakeskin patterns. From frilly crop tops to red embroidered accents and splashy florals, rainbow colours were everywhere for spring.
