Fashion Art Toronto 2016- Day 5
On Saturday night, the final evening of Fashion Art Toronto 2016 shows came to a dramatic conclusion with an elegant Haute Couture theme. Staying true to the theme, the fifth day of FAT 2016 wrapped up the past week of alternative fashion shows with a dramatic grand finale. From outerwear at Iskon Mode to evening gowns at Marie Copps, here’s a look at what the Fashion Art Toronto runways revealed.
Iskon Mode
The Serbian label was founded in 2009, and has since made a splash in Serbia, Switzerland, Germany and Sweden. Making an entrance in the North American market, Iskon presented a vibrant, watercolour-hued Spring 2016 collection at Fashion Art Toronto. The latest designs were created with natural silk, cotton and linen, and brought the colours of the sun, earth and water to the catwalk. From textured coats in shades of grey to a fringed plaid poncho, layered pieces were a key look. Meanwhile, pink floral accents, brilliant pops of yellow and contrasting detail completed the collection.
Lushyne
Montreal-based designer Lucci Rojas graduated from École des Métiers des Faubourgs de Montréal in 2003, and is a former costume artist for Cirque du Soleil. Rojas launched his line Lushyne in 2011, and focuses on seductive yet avant garde designs. On the runway, Lushyne presented a collection of form-fitting frocks with plunging necklines and shimmering dark metallic designs. From a short fringed skirt to a sleeveless black jumpsuit, subtle sex appeal was certainly in the air.
Oscar Mendoza
Mexican-Canadian designer Oscar Mendoza is based in Montreal, and started designing in 2010. For his Fall 2016/Winter 2017 collection, Mendoza featured an Insectmobilia line which drew inspiration from insects and nature. The designs on display ranged from bohemian chic to gothic, with black lace and sheer frocks causing a sensation. Intricate detail, ruffles and shimmery accents all illuminated the catwalk and highlighted Mendoza’s creations.
Marie Copps
Toronto designer, artist and photographer Marie Copps has been featured internationally, with her evening gowns making an appearance in Czech beauty pageants. On the FAT catwalk, Copps unveiled her eponymous label’s new “She’s A Queen” collection, which was fittingly inspired by royalty. Models dazzled on the runway in iridescent gowns with mermaid hems and embellishment. Meanwhile, oversized statement headpieces, brilliant jewel tones and lace bodices brought the allure of royalty to the catwalk.
