In breaking fashion news, Yves Saint Laurent has officially appointed a new creative director after the departure of designer Hedi Slimane. Although it was recently announced that 47-year-old Slimane had exited the French luxury fashion house, the company has now titled Anthony Vaccarello as its new creative force.
According to Business of Fashion, the 36-year-old Belgian-born designer has stepped down from his previous position at Versus Versace. BOF also reports that Vaccarello shared his excitement about joining the house of Yves Saint Laurent.
“Mr Saint Laurent is a legendary figure for his creativity, style and audacity,” said Vaccarello in the statement. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the history of this extraordinary house.”
Francesca Bellettini, president and CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, is also said to have shared her thoughts on Vaccarello’s appointment.
“I am extremely happy to have Anthony Vaccarello take the creative helm of Yves Saint Laurent,” she said in a statement. “His modern, pure aesthetic is the perfect fit for the maison. Anthony Vaccarello impeccably balances elements of provocative femininity and sharp masculinity in his silhouettes.”
Vaccarello has become recognized for his focus on sexy, avant garde design. He launched his eponymous label in 2010, and joined Versus Versace as creative director in January 2015.
With his latest fashion venture now taking place, it will be interesting to see Vaccarello’s creations grace the YSL catwalk. The designer is set to showcase his debut collection for Saint Laurent this October, just in time for the Spring 2017 collections on the Paris runways.
