Last night, U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama officially held a state dinner at the White House in honour of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau. According to The Toronto Star, the Washington dinner was the first one held for a Canadian leader in 19 years.
Staying true to the air of sophistication which marked this diplomatic event, Mrs. Obama was a gorgeous sight in a strapless jacquard Jason Wu gown. The rich navy blue colour of the frock contrasted against the intricate floral detail, which made a splash with its green and dark pink detail. Her floor-length number featured a voluminous and delicately pleated hem.
Meanwhile, Grégoire-Trudeau was patriotic and pretty in a punchy violet gown by Toronto-based designer Lucian Matis. The 40-year-old French Canadian beauty looked gorgeous in the cap-sleeved creation, which featured a dainty keyhole neckline and contrasting orange and pink embellished detail.

Blonde beauty Blake Lively also attended the evening’s festivities on the arm of her husband, 39-year-old Vancouver-born actor Ryan Reynolds.
The 28-year-old actress looked stunning in a luxurious silver satin gown from Ralph & Russo’s Spring 2016 Couture collection. Lively’s luminous frock was finished with a deep V-neckline, long sleeves with delicate shoulder cut-outs and a wide sash belt.
