As the fashion world is always one step ahead of the game, here are the top emerging runway trends as spotted on the international runways.
New York Fashion Week
Flirty Skirt Suits
At New York Fashion Week, the worlds of business and pleasure were officially combined with the revamped skirt suit. For Fall 2016, this ladylike suiting trend was updated with playful short skirts and funky jackets. On the runways, Michael Kors stuck to shades of charcoal grey, with an oversized double-breasted jacket paired with a coordinating short skirt. At Jason Wu, the look was a navy blue skirt suit, finished with a girly pleated hem and a luxurious fur collar. At Tory Burch, the focus was on tiny detailed prints, a cropped jacket and bold black buttons.
London Fashion Week
Playful Bows
The catwalks in London put the emphasis on preppy and authentically British style, with charming neckties leaving their mark for Fall 2016. At Erdem, Montreal-based and London-based designer Erdem Moralioglu added dainty black bows to flowing printed frocks with Edwardian inspired silhouettes. Meanwhile, the Topshop runways featured delicate bows which adorned lace dresses and knit sweaters. At Temperley London, designer Alice Temperley added long black bows to designs and experimented with whimsical pussybow blouses.
Milan Fashion Week
Skinny Scarves
On the Italian runways, effortlessly elegant skinny scarves were paired with pantsuits and bohemian frocks for Fall 2016. At Trussardi, this slim and stylish accessory was loosely knotted around the neck, and featured an eye-catching pattern in shades of lavender and beige. At Roberto Cavalli, the classic long skinny scarf was updated with an intricate, swirling pattern and fringed detail. Meanwhile, Missoni’s take on the trend was complete with flowing, rainbow strands and expertly combined with a knit multicoloured sweater.
Paris Fashion Week
Nineties Chic
The calendar may read 2016, but the Paris runways took inspiration from the nineties for the coming season. On the catwalks, this translated into quaint denim paired with bright fuchsia and an oversized chapeau at Chanel. Meanwhile, sultry slip dresses with dainty straps ruled at Nina Ricci, with little black dresses and sheer pantyhouse turning up the glamour factor at Saint Laurent.
