As London Fashion Week officially draws to a close today, the runways across the pond have revealed a plethora of brightly coloured, bold and funky looks for Fall 2016.

Staying true to the iconic British label’s reputation for eccentric and edgy creations, creative director Sarah Burton unveiled a series of ethereal and vaguely gothic looks at Alexander McQueen. The collection was inspired by the typical McQueen woman, who Burton described to Vogue.com as “Almost sleepwalking, in a state where reality and dreams become blurred.”

On the runway, this translated into a variety of flowing black coats, long embellished gowns with sheer detail and softly falling tiers. As well, tailored black trousers and jackets, floaty pink frocks and embroidered floral accents on sheer gowns also made a grand entrance.

At Burberry, the collection was clearly influenced by iconic British rocker David Bowie. The 1970s inspired designs on display captured the spirit of the disco era, with a vaguely “borrowed from the boys” feeling on the catwalk. The London-based fashion house’s traditional outerwear made a splash, with a colourful update. From a brilliant green trench coat adorned with bold buttons and a python print to a shiny belted topper, rainbow hues were in the air. Meanwhile, plaid prints, intricate rainbow-hued prints and embroidered frocks also made a splash.

At Christopher Kane, the design aesthetic was a family affair. Scottish designer Kane and his sister, Tammy, were inspired by their late mother’s wardrobe from the 1990s. The collection channelled Christine Kane’s attire from the era, with liberal use of kitschy rain hats and neutral outerwear on the runways. From nude, grey and tan-coloured coats to floaty floral dresses, bright scarves and shearling accents, the nineties were truly in the air.

Designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos revealed a Nordic skiing theme, which brought the wintertime mountain air to the London runways. In other words, the latest looks at their label Peter Pilotto featured shimmering Lurex designs, metallic accents and eye-catching prints on knit sweaters. From intricate swirling patterns on coats to multicoloured patterns, the colour palette ranged from silver and white to brilliant bursts of colour.

At Vivienne Westwood Red Label, asymmetrical hemlines and dark shades of navy blue and red ruled the runway. The latest designs from the fabulously daring British designer included sultry thigh-high hemlines, belted jackets and luxurious plaid coats. Clashing prints, slouchy trousers and kaleidoscope colour were all juxtaposed with lavish black lace and silky ruched frocks.
