Why Smoothies Are Better Than Your Daily Cup of Coffee
For some of us, starting the day without coffee is impossible. Those who have caffeine addictions rely on coffee to give them the energy they need for a busy day. However, coffee can have a negative effect on one’s health, as it can increase stress levels, disturb sleep patterns, potentially lower levels of serotonin in the body and result in digestive problems.
It’s important to incorporate fruit and vegetables in your diet and smoothies are a great way to do that. One should have five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day. The healthiest smoothies are the ones you make your own, which allows you to control the amount of sugar in your smoothie. Try to pick fruit that do not have a high amount of sugar. Fruit like raspberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, and papaya are low in sugar, whereas options like bananas, mangoes and grapes are high in sugar and best avoided. The addition of fruit will also help cover the taste of any kale or spinach in your smoothies!
Mixing the fruit with water is a great way to include more water in your diet. You’ll be pleased to know that a fruity smoothie can help you maintain your energy levels longer than a cup of coffee. To create the ultimate power drink, try adding regular milk to your smoothie, or even flax milk or unsweetened almond milk for a nutritious fix.
By drinking a smoothie, you are absorbing more nutrients and vitamins at once. It’s also good to include more protein. Try incorporating chia seeds for some healthy fats and fibre, or infusing your smoothie with Greek yogurt.
If you’re somebody that can stand the side effects of cutting coffee out of your diet, try making smoothies instead. Coffee is said to include a few health benefits, such as the presence of multiple antioxidants and reduced risks of liver disease, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s. However, the negative side effects are the reasons that people should consider how coffee is really affecting their daily lives. With sunny skies ahead which are reminiscent of tropical island days, there’s nothing like a creamy and fruity concoction to encourage you to drop that latte or espresso!
