Camellia Oil Is The Latest Beauty Oil For Skin
While it’s no surprise that olive oil can help to nourish dehydrated skin and distressed strands, it looks like camellia oil may be joining the ranks of popular beauty oils that have made a splash in recent years.
Derived from the seeds of the Camellia plant, this rising skincare ingredient is also known as tea seed oil. Native to Asia, camellia oil is used as a cooking oil in China. However, a variety of this oil called camellia japonica (or tsubaki) oil is also a key ingredient in a number of Japanese beauty products.
Once considered an exotic staple, camellia is quickly finding its way into North American cosmetics and may offer a range of skincare benefits. Antioxidant-rich camellia is said to offer the benefits of Vitamins A, B, D and E. As well, it is a source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to nourish the hair and skin.
Along with being rich in vitamins and Omega-3, camellia oil is also said to increase the elasticity of the skin, offer anti-inflammatory powers and contribute to a more youthful complexion. According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, camellia japonica oil may also play a role in reducing the look of wrinkles when used topically.
For anyone looking to maintain a rejuvenated and hydrated complexion, it may be a smart skincare move to include camellia oil in your beauty regimen.
