As a nutritional plan developed by Dr. Andrew Weil, the Anti-Inflammatory Diet is intended to help its followers combat the health effects of inflammation. With illnesses like arthritis, heart disease and Alzheimer’s often occurring as a result of inflammation, this diet aims to protect the body. However, the Anti-Inflammatory Diet (which aims to target the dangers of inflammation through dietary choices) claims to also play a role in weight loss. Followers stick to a mainly vegetarian and fibre-rich diet, which places a focus on superfoods and servings of fish.

What Does The Diet Offer?

The diet aims to tackle the issues of swelling, redness and discomfort which are often associated with inflammation. Evidently, foods which contain saturated and unsaturated fats, as well as sugar and simple carbohydrate can lead to the signs of inflammation. The Anti-Inflammatory diet emphasizes whole grains (such as brown rice), Omega 3 fatty acids, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh produce and soy products. Along with reducing inflammation, these health-conscious menu options may also help followers shed excess pounds. According to Dr. Weil, the diet also recommends approximately 40 grams of fibre per day.

For anyone who is vegan or gluten-free, the Anti-Inflammatory Diet can be adapted for various dietary needs. With an emphasis on unprocessed foods, antioxidant-rich superfoods and whole grains, the diet certainly claims to promote balanced eating.
