While you may have fantasized about unicorns as a child, it looks like this mythical creature has officially inspired an eccentric new hair trend which is gracing social media.

Known as unicorn horn hair, the latest breakthrough in braided hairstyles involves a wrapped, woven braid which sticks upright at a 90 degree angle. To achieve these towering braids, aspiring unicorns are first styling their locks into a high ponytail right on top of their heads. Next, the ponytail is plaited or woven around a cone to create a horn inspired shape.

For long-haired beauty lovers, we can only imagine the amount of styling products which would be required to defy gravity (all in pursuit of your inner unicorn). Although you may want to stick to your usual fishtail braid or messy bun for a weekday look, hairstyling addicts can always try channeling their inner fantastical beast for a costume party. If you’re not afraid to stand out in a crowd, perhaps a statement-making unicorn braid is an edgy and magical look to embrace now.
