If you’re looking to swap your favourite ruby red shade for a darker lip, an oil slick lip look may be worth a try for your next Friday night on the town. Also known as mermaid or petrol lips, oil slick lips are created using a layering technique to achieve a glossy effect.

Starting with a dark-coloured shade, the lips are then painted with bright colours, layering different shades of turquoise, purple, red, green and gold and focusing these vibrant tones on the centre of the lips. The lips are then topped with plenty of gloss to create an iridescent look.
