when we catch up with our summer 2017 cover girl, katheryn winnick has just returned from lming in London and is now back in Dublin. The Toronto-born
star of the History Network series Vikings is running on just a few hours of sleep when we chat, but she sounds surprisingly fresh and enthusiastic.
We rst met Winnick three years ago, when the Canadian beauty graced our Spring 2014 cover and Vikings was fairly new to the small screen. Fast forward to 2017, and the historical drama show is now a cult classic and a favourite among history buffs.
In the series, Winnick plays the queen and shieldmaiden Lagertha Lothbrok, who is married to Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). In the legend, Lagertha was a powerful female warrior and a ruler in her own right, in what is now Norway. Ragnar was a legendary Viking commander.
With its gorgeous stars and plot packed with intrigue, it’s little wonder that the series has found a following. It’s also had success at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning Best International Drama in 2015.
Building on her small screen success, Winnick is now set to take on the big screen in a big way, starring in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower in August.
Evoking vibes of the powerful female she plays in her hit show, the real life Winnick is a force to be reckoned with, with a strong spirit and passion for her craft. The star spoke to Real Style about her Vikings journey, working with Matthew McConaughey and what’s next.
real style: you were our cover girl three years ago. we ran into you at the Canadian screen awards, and you were so cute, tiny and erce—de nitely not somebody to be messed with in a dark alley. Do you nd you get that reaction when people recognize you?
