“As the waves lapped gently around our sun-kissed toes, work—and our hectic schedule— seemed a million miles away”
Paradise Found
But it’s not just the restaurant scene that ticks the style box for Grand Cayman: Beautiful design abounds at every turn. One such modern trapping is Camana Bay. Spread generously across 500 acres, the mixed retail and residential enclave boasts up- market boutiques, cool cafés and slick sports facili- ties, all set amid immaculately groomed gardens and courtyards.
As designers, we were equally impressed by Grand Cayman’s traditional buildings. Artisan- built homes, tin roofed and pastel painted, twinkle in the warm sunlight, whispering, as they do, of the past, but at the same time securing Cayman’s future for purists everywhere.
On the recommendation of friends, we found
time to visit the Cayman Crystal Caves. The re-
cently opened naturally occurring attraction is
made up of a labyrinth of interconnecting caverns,
lavishly encrusted with stalagmites, stalactites and
endless shimmering rock formations. There’s even
a “secret” underground lake. Professionally illuminated to showcase the natural geological beauty, the subterranean splendour is little short of spellbinding.
And so it came to pass: Our nal day in paradise was upon us. Yup, it was time to wave goodbye to the beautiful island and y home to cooler climes. The tourist board proudly proclaim that, after visiting Grand Cayman, you carry a little of the island’s spirit in your heart, forever. This observed, another dose of spirit harvest wouldn’t go amiss. Consequently, when diaries allow, we plan marking our passports once again with the Grand Cayman stamp. And for that pleasurable prospect we can hardly wait.
