When we meet Measha Brueggergosman at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Toronto’s upscale Yorkville neighbourhood, the 40-year-old Canadian opera sensation instantly lls the room with her presence. Although Brueggergosman is not performing on stage, her warm demeanour, powerful speaking voice and rich laugh manage to ood the small, grey conference room with life. Best known for her soprano vocals, the proudly Canadian opera singer hails from Fredericton, New Brunswick, and now calls the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia home. Brueggergosman’s recently published memoir Something Is Always On Fire just hit the shelves
in October, and reveals the story behind the big voice. The book details a number of the trials and tribulations that she faced on the way to creative success. From the struggles with her marriage to
her weight loss journey, heart health issues and the tragic loss of her unborn twins, the outspoken star has encountered many challenges. Brueggergosman turned to writing as a means to share her tale,
while also allowing herself to heal. Real Style had a chance to talk with her about her experiences with music, life, self-love and spirituality.
