TREND ALERT
SQUARE NECKLINES
This summer, it’s officially hip to
be square! That’s right, square necklines are back en vogue, and have created a bold statement on the season’s runways. While fashion has long since been dominated by sweetheart necklines and plunging V-necks, square designs are ushering in a new era of strong silhouettes.
At Carolina Herrera, the famously feminine designer jumped headfirst into this trend with a brilliant yellow frock. The square-shaped neck was complemented with puffed short sleeves, ruching and an asymmetrical skirt. Meanwhile, the thigh-high slit revealed a hint of leg, and balanced out the practical, no-nonsense neckline.
At Rodarte, the trend made an appearance in the form of a red, floral tiered dress. With its layers of ruffles and punchy print, this flowery dress received an upgrade with a trending squared-off neckline.
If you thought the square neckline was for formal purposes only, a glimpse at the Cushnie et Ochs runway proves otherwise. The label stayed true to its business casual aesthetic, but updated the look with
a pleated, squared-off peplum blouse and a pair of flowing cropped trousers. Whether it’s a daytime affair or evening invite you’re gearing up for, the square neckline is sure to make a fresh and inspired impression.
