3D printing. The star ruby was specifically selected to emulate the planetary and sun themes,” Kavakonis explains.
Meanwhile, rebels and rule breakers hardly have to settle for the princess treatment if they prefer not to. Ever the artist, Ka- vakonis has also proudly crafted the Black Widow Spider pen- dant necklace, which is made with blackened sterling silver and red spessartine garnets. Much like Kavakonis’ Sunrise Ruby earrings, this spidery neckpiece is also inspired by a work of poetry. The designer was inspired by the 19th cen- tury Mary Howitt poem The Spider and the Fly.
“The Black Widow Spider and the Sunrise Ruby earrings would probably appeal to very different people, although they could also reflect the mood of the same person at different times,” Kavakonis tells us.
When it comes to how best to wear her pieces, Ka- vakonis advises wearers of her jewellery to keep the rest of their look simple, to allow the pieces to truly stand out. “Be- cause I think of jewellery as the focus, the exemplification of the woman (or man) wearing it, I suggest solid coloured clothing that is the foil/background to the multi-layered jewellery with meaning,” she says.
SWAROVSKI
Swarovski Canada’s head of
marketing and communications, Annette Ryan believes that strik- ing jewellery looks are a trend of the moment. “This season, Swarovski transports women to an enchanting natural world that glitters to a mystical Tales of the Forest theme,” Ryan tells us. The brand’s latest collection is the Crystal Tales collection, which is made with jewel-toned
visually arresting jewellery. “The best part about wearing a plain dress or a simple blouse is that you can play with differ- ent accessories. Personally, I love being able to stack pieces together. Whether it’s necklaces or bracelets, layering pieces to- gether can take a simple outfit
to the next level,” she says. With great accessory style also comes great responsibil- ity—that of keeping your bau- bles in top form. “Personally, I store my jewellery by type— bracelets, necklaces, rings and brooches are all stored
separately,” she says.
If you find yourself re-wear-
ing the same pieces over and over again, another good tip is to keep the jewellery pol- ished with a soft lint-free cloth. Properly storing your favourite pieces can keep issues such as twisted chains or other forms of damage under con- trol, Ryan says.
“An on-dresser display with hooks allows me to hang any pieces to avoid tangling, and a custom jewellery box stores
the rest,” she says.
Whether you opt for vibrant
necklaces of multicoloured stones or prefer to stack on lay- ers of chains this season, there’s no need to shy from the spot- light. With party season around the corner, it’s time to shine on— and the right ear, neck and wrist candy will help you sparkle the night away.
 SUNRISE RUBY EARRINGS
shades of dark blue, sapphire, burgundy and emerald.
Whether you are accessoriz- ing for a wedding or a gala, Ryan believes that Swarovski has something for every func- tion. On an individual level, she likes to layer up her jewellery to create a statement, eye-catch- ing look. Ryan prefers minimal- ist fashion to complement more
